The 28-year-old man was arrested in connection with an animal cruelty case. In the incident, the video captured a man slamming his dog into the ground in Long Beach.
The intrusive video, filmed Monday, circulated on social media after a man dragged a dog with his neck, threw it over his shoulder and slammed it to the ground. After a while, the man kicks the dog in the head, leaves again near his neck and collar, then leaves and drags again.
Long Beach police have identified the video as Alexander Queva of Long Beach. He was arrested Tuesday on felony animal cruelty charges after being found in the 800 block of Pine Avenue.
He remains behind the bar without bail.
“This type of cruelty has no place in our community,” Police Chief Wally Hewisch said in a statement. “…We acknowledge the deep concerns this incident has raised throughout the community and appreciate the public’s support in sharing important information.
The dog is then rescued and cared for by Long Beach Animal Care Services.
“She is currently energetic, cheerful and responsive,” Long Beach Animal Care Services said of the dogs. “She suffered several injuries consistent with her suspected trauma, but she is expected to heal with time and care. She will be placed in foster care for recovery.”
