The 45-year-old man was arrested in an investigation into the abuse and murder of a cat in a Santa Ana neighborhood.
Police said they received multiple calls from residents over the past few weeks. Residents told police that the man had invited the cats to his property and then captured them to abuse and kill the animals, investigators said.
Investigators searched the home in the 23,000 block of West Wilshire Avenue and found dozens of dead cats, Santa Ana Police Officer Natalie Garcia told City News Service. It was not immediately clear whether the cat was owned by residents of the area.
Police say Alejandro Oliveros Acosta was arrested and booked on suspicion of felony animal cruelty. It was not immediately clear whether he had a lawyer.
Acosta is also suspected of acquiring a Bengal Links cat named Club Bar from a cat home in Westminster last month, Garcia said. The cat was reportedly stolen on March 19th.
The owner saw the suspect’s lure club bar (probably with food), and saw the cat snatched and fled to a white pickup truck, police said.
