Top Democrats alleged that while she was publicly advocating for Salvador Kilmar Abrego Garcia, she ignored communications from members whose son had been accused of Venezuelan military forces.
Senator Patty Murray, D-Wash. – Became third in line with the presidency until Republicans seized the Senate – to Fox News Digital on Monday through a spokesman, they have no record of correspondence from Scott St. Clair seeking the help of his incarcerated son.
“Our office does not have a record of investigations from the St. Clair family. However, our staff are ready and likely to support Joseph’s return,” a Murray spokesman said.
“We’re working to get in touch with our families in person,” said a Murray spokesperson.

Joseph St. Clair, a four-tour Afghan war veteran from Hansville, Washington, first disappeared in November while undergoing PTSD treatment in Columbia.
In February, his father received a call from the Colombian Consulate. He told him that the administration of Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro had taken him hostage.
Regarding her advocacy for Abrego Garcia, her office said Murray “is also committed to protecting the fundamental rights to America’s legitimate processes — and will not avoid denounce the Trump administration’s dangerous efforts to undermine the rule of law.”
On Thursday, Murray retweeted a photo of Senator Chris Van Hollen, who wrote a photo with Abrego Garcia of El Salvador, writing, “We’re with you, Senator Van Hollen.”
“In America, we don’t send people to foreign prisons for a life without trial or legitimate procedures. We will continue to fight. This is to protect our democracy,” she continued.
She also released a video that said the Trump administration “suddenly tore Garcia on the streets.”
“They have admitted that this deportation is wrong. Now the president is trying to pretend he has no power to bring him back from one of the world’s most frightening prisons. This is not American. It’s immoral. It’s illegal and needs to be stopped,” Murray said.

Rantz denounced Murray’s tweet, saying, “Pretending to care for illegal immigrants from El Salvador, he ignores the father of an American USAF veterinarian who was kidnapped by the Maduro regime in Venezuela.”
Another Seattle person, Jonathan Cho of the Discovery Institute, spoke of Murray’s comments on Abrego Garcia, then St. Clair’s light-form to X, saying it “makes no sense.” Several other people denounced the Senator on X for the situation, but the hostage aid group reprinted some of Rantz’s reports on the issue.
Scott St. Clair told Lantz that his son was detained along with several other Americans whom Donald Trump President Rick Grenell could bring home during a meeting with Maduro on January 31.
Joseph St. Clair’s military qualifications were originally attracting the attention of Venezuelans, his father said.
Another Trump envoy, Adam Berler, reached out to his family to support them, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio has officially designated Joseph St. Clair as “illegally detained.”
Lantz shared apparent screenshots of Scott St. Clair’s attempt to contact Murray before “any other state senator agrees to intervene.” The lawmaker was found to be Sen. Eric Schmidt, who Fox News Digital asked for comment.
Scott St. Clair appeared to reach out to Sen. Maria Cantwell via email on March 23, via a Twitter Direct message after Rubio officially designated his son’s prisoner of war.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro will address supporters during the event to commemorate the 36th anniversary of the social uprising known as the “Caracazo.” President Hugo Chavez said he marked the beginning of the revolution in Caracas, Venezuela on February 27th.
In a February email shared with Lantz, Scott St. Clair wrote that he wrote “as a matter of record.” He also wrote to Murray on a “web form” and appeared to include the letter text in a partially hidden previous reply.
He also shared a screenshot of his X-direct message to Murray, where he shared the “Bring Joe Home” graphic and message.
Scott St. Clair said he received some kind of response from Cantwell but was eventually pivoted by Schmidt.
According to one screenshot seen by Fox News Digital, he wrote to Murray, he wrote to Murray.
“There is no state support from lawmakers or senators,” Joseph’s mother Patty added in a Monday night interview with “Fox News @night.” “I thank God that there are senators who are stepping up from other states to help us, but there’s nothing from ours.”
“We welcome [Murray’s] Advocacy, yes, but I don’t think it’s coming,” added Scott St. Clair.
