Shannon Sharp announced Thursday that the woman has decided to temporarily leave his ESPN duties after filing a $50 million civil lawsuit against the tight end of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Sharpe has been accused of becoming increasingly abusive, dominant and violent over time, threatening to kill her and recording a sexual encounter without consent, the Associated Press reported.
“This time we’re dedicated to our families, we’ll address and address these false and destructive allegations. We’ll be returning to ESPN at the start of the NFL preseason,” Sharp said in a statement posted on X hours before the NFL Draft began.
The former professional athlete first appeared on ESPN’s First Take in August 2023 and signed a multi-year contract with ESPN in June 2024. Sharpe has been successful with podcasters hosting shows such as “Club Shay Shay” and “Nightcap.”
Sharpe first tackled the lawsuit in a video posted to Instagram on Tuesday, saying it was “Shakedown.” Counsel for both sides admitted that Sharpe offered at least $10 million to resolve the case in mediation before the lawsuit was filed, but the offer was reduced by the accuser.
