A newly released police video shows Weezer’s bassist wife being armed with a handgun as she was facing a uniformed LAPD officer who was searching for the Eagle Rock area earlier this month.
“Leave your gun! Leave your gun,” the officer looked over the wooden backyard fence on April 8th to see a woman later identified as Gillian Lauren Schliner.
“Leave the gun,” the officer cried repeatedly.
“Madam, please leave your gun,” cried another officer. “Madam, we’re trying to help you!”
One officer has been recorded saying, “She just pointed it out, she wasn’t us, she just lifted it up.”
Seconds later, another officer said, “Yeah, she hugged it,” and the gunshot continued quickly.
LAPD says two officers injured Schliner in the shoulder. There were no injuries.
At least eight gunshots were heard on the recording.
Schliner, 51, was treated at a hospital and was booked for suspected attempted murder of a police officer. According to prison records, she posted a $1 million bond, scheduled for April 30th in court.
As of Friday, no criminal charges had been filed by prosecutors.
A security video from Shriner Home, retrieved by LAPD and included in the compiled video presentation of the incident, showed Shriner appearing from his home with a black pistol in his right hand.
Several security video angles that did not capture the sound showed her walking around her house before a conflict with the officers. The LAPD-enhanced segment shows that Shriner appears to be raising a pistol and firing a shot before the officers fire.
Earlier this month, LAPD said a used cartridge incident from Shriner’s 9mm pistol was found at the scene, saying she was shot saying she “repeated repeated police orders.”
The new LAPD video shows an image of the shell case next to the evidence marker.
The event that led to the shooting began around 3:25pm, when CHP officials requested backup while searching for three people who fled the Hit and Rank Rush along the 134 highway near Figuero As Street, east of Los Angeles.
According to the initial explanation provided by police, several LAPD officers from the northeast arrived, setting up containment in the area, then set up containment in the area, and then went to the location of Wald where they saw people running through the backyard.
While officers were in the backyard, they saw a woman in the yard of the neighboring house, who was later identified as Schliner. They ordered her to drop the gun and fired it when LAPD said it pointed it at the officers.
