The Los Angeles police pursuit ended in a dramatic way Friday afternoon, when members of the SWAT team used armored vehicles to box the suspect’s truck, crush windows, throw gas cans and pull out the driver.
The driver, an unidentified woman, was taken into custody after 12:30pm, and the TV news helicopter broadcast a stand-off live overhead.
In the video of the incident, members of the SWAT team broke the rear of the truck and the side windows of the driver’s seat with metal poles and attempted to use the poles to drop a can of gas into the truck cab to force the driver.
After administering the first gas, the woman opened and kicked the passenger’s door barefoot, appeared temporarily, closed the door and stayed in the truck.
Gas’ third canister appears to be doing the trick, and the woman leaves the vehicle and meets about half a dozen police officers.
The incident took place in the driveway of the home near the intersection of Coldwater Canyon Avenue and Clausson Place about half a mile south of Harvard West Lake School.
Police had been shut down traffic in schools and neighbourhoods for more than two hours.
According to the KTLA, the pursuit began around 9:30am near Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street when a truck crashed into a fire hydrant and fled from police.
Along the way, police attempted a pit manuver to disable the truck, and eventually boxed it out using multiple flat tires in front of the Studio City home.
