Health officials are warning residents to avoid swimming, surfing and playing in the saltwater in some Los Angeles County beaches due to bacterial levels exceeding state health standards.
These public health advisories can be issued at any time, but can be issued more frequently after rain. The presence of storm drainage and runoff can increase bacterial levels in the water.
The Los Angeles County Public Health department is also warning beach fans to avoid swimming near fire debris and damaged stormwater infrastructure.
The affected areas include:
Topanga Canyon Beach, Malibu – 100 yards up and down the coast from Redondo Beach Lagoon Redondo Beach Pier. Up and down the coast 100 yards from Castle Rock Storm Drain, pier at Topanga County Beach – Marie Canyon Storm Drain throughout the swim area – Marie Canyon Storm Drain, Paerco Beach – at the top of Santa Monica, 100 yards from the coast, at the top of 100 yards.
