Evander Kane and Evan Bouchard scored in the third term in a 10-second span, with the Edmonton Oilers cutting the Kings’ series lead to 2-1, beating Los Angeles 7-4 on Friday night.
Kane was tied up at 4am at 6:42am and remained in a wild scramble in front of the finish line. Dominating the goal after reviews, Los Angeles challenged goalkeeper interference. The challenge failed, giving Edmonton a power play, and Bouchard moved ahead with the Oilers at 6:32, kicking out a nifty feed from Leon Draysiterd.
“We have a lot of characters, and we’re going to shake up as we go down,” Draysightle said. “We created that approach here and that attitude within this organization. We’re not going to backtrack until we go out.”
Game 4 is a Sunday night in Edmonton.
“After we win the game, we’ll rest in the same way,” Kings coach Jim Hiller said. “Look at it and reorganize it like they do. It may sound a bit boring, but I think these are the things. It’s emotional, the crowd is emotional, emotional, so you have to chill your heads and get ready to play another hockey game.”
Bouchard and Connor Brown each had two goals, with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Connor McDavid also scored. Calvin Picard made 25 saves after Stuart Skinner started his first two games in Los Angeles.
Kane played his second game after losing the entire regular season with injuries.
“We looked like our first two games were still in regular season mode and we still looked ready tonight and we had the third biggest push,” he said.
Adrian Kempe, Kevin Fiara, Drew Doughty and Trevor Moore won Los Angeles. Darcy Kuemper stopped 29 shots.
