D-Md. Governor Wes Moore confirmed with Fox News Digital that he will not travel to El Salvador following the deportation of so-called “Maryland Man” Kilmer Abrego Garcia.

In Washington this weekend, Fox News Digital asked Moore if he plans to visit Abrego Garcia in El Salvador following his famous trip to defend Maryland Sen. Chris Van Hollen’s release from Abrego Garcia’s prison and return to the United States.

“I’m not. Good night tonight,” Moore responded, with a smile on his face, dressed in a black tuxedo for the White House correspondent’s dinner.

“Governor, do you think Abrego Garcia should be sent back to the US?” Fox Next Digital later asked Moore again.

“Hello, have a great night. Thank you,” Moore said, ignoring the question. He said with a smile on his face as he proceeded down the hallway.

Moore was silent about the situation in El Salvador this weekend, but he supported his support for fellow Maryland Democrats on social media earlier this month.

“I am grateful for @Chrisvanhollen’s leadership and his efforts to ensure Kilmar is safe and return to Maryland,” Moore said in X.

Senator Chris Van Hollen will be welcomed by his supporters when he arrives from a meeting with Kilmer Abrego Garcia of El Salvador at Washington Dulles International Airport in Chantilly, Virginia on April 18, 2025.

Moore’s office confirmed that the governor had not travelled to El Salvador when he reached Fox News Digital on Tuesday.

Last week, Moore said he had no plans to travel to El Salvador despite a trip to control Van Hollen headlines to support MS-13 members who said President Donald Trump’s administration was initially mistakenly deported.

“This is an example of the due process, and whether or not to follow the constitution, bring him back to make sure he is on trial and the judge determines whether the law is broken.

The US Supreme Court ordered the Trump administration to “promote” his return, but Salvadoran President Naive Buquel said Abrego Garcia had gang ties and would not release him to the United States.

The deportation sparked rage among Democrats, with several lawmakers joining Van Hollen and visiting El Salvador to defend Abrego Garcia.

Abrego Garcia is being detained in a low-security facility in El Salvador after being transported from Centro de Confinamiento del Terrorismo (CECOT), an El Salvador prison where federal officials dispatched hundreds of criminals and gang members in March.
