The city of Glendale has launched an active version of its Sister City program.
Commitment helps to build global relationships that will become richer [the] City officials are community through cultural, educational and economic exchanges in a media release issued Tuesday.
To celebrate the program, Glendale held its first event on March 26th under the One Sky event. This has led community members, international representatives and civic leaders to celebrate the community’s global partnership and showcase the mission and opportunities of the Sister City Programme.

“Glendale is proud to be one of California’s most diverse cities,” said Glendale City Councilman Ellen Assatrian. “Through the revitalized programme, we are strengthening international partnerships and paving new avenues for cities, residents and businesses to engage in cultural and economic exchange opportunities.”
“This initiative is not iconic,” added Glendale Mayor Ala Najalian. “It’s a practical way for our communities to share ideas and cultures across borders.”
Currently, Glendale has 10 sister cities, all of which have been selected based on similarities between regions, including size, economy, manufacturing and entertainment options.

For comparison, Los Angeles has 25 sister cities, including Lusaka, Zambia. Tehran, Iran and Split, Croatia. It has also been a sister city to Yerevan, the capital of Armenia since 2007.

Higashiosaka was Glendale’s first sister city and was designated in 1960. This is just four years after President Dwight D. Eisenhower founded Sister City International, a network of tens of thousands of civil diplomats and volunteers working in more than 140 countries.
