Trump, who promised day 1 relief and low prices, talks about “transition period” – NBC Los Angeles

President Donald Trump on Tuesday claimed that he prepared Americans for a tough “transition period” despite a campaign that promised that the explicit first day would lower prices and restore the economy’s prosperity.

In an interview with Terry Moran of ABC News, Trump defended his trade policy, raising fears about price surges and volatile economy.

When Moran realized that Trump had told Americans “stricken” to explain the stock market and the business community to the foreign countries, Trump suggested that the resulting difficulties were not surprising to those who voted for him.

“I said all of these things during the campaign,” Trump said in a pre-recorded interview. “I said, ‘You’ll have a transition period.’

Trump’s sales pitch has barely supported voters due to tough times where he says he’s ready to look forward to now. He has committed to implementing tariffs, but he often spoke of the immediate recovery caused by the inauguration and his initial enforcement actions.

For example, last August, Trump held a completed press conference at his New Jersey Golf Club against the backdrop of grocery, “I swear I will immediately lower the prices and lower the prices from day one,” and at an October rally in Saginaw, Michigan, Trump pledged:

Trump made a “tough” comment in a social media post on April 5th, much after the campaign ended.

Moran also suggested to Trump that Americans “didn’t sign up” because of the trade war.

“Well, they signed up for it,” Trump retorted. “This is what I campaigned for.”

Throughout the interview, Trump rejected the idea that his policies would be a long-term obstacle. Moran, who continues to push the tariff issue, casually replied when asked if Trump’s message to voters was that “everything will be a crazy dolly,” the president responded casually: “Everything will go well.”

He quickly added:

At another point, Trump targeted us with a board that sets monetary policy, claiming that “interest rates should go down, but there’s a Federal Reserve that wants to be stubborn.”

As the conversation turned to other topics, Trump defended Defense Secretary Pete Hegses. Pete Hegses conveys more sensitive information than the safe channel, telling him he is “smart” and “talented” about how he runs the Pentagon. (He told the Atlantic in an interview released this week that Hegses’ work was safe.)

But Trump stopped voting completely of confidence. When Moran asked Trump if he had “100% confidence,” the president balked.

“I’m not 100% confident about anything, OK?” replied Trump. “Do I have 100%? That’s a stupid question.”

Trump added: “You don’t have 100%. Only liars will say, ‘I have 100% confidence.’ ”

Trump also defended his administration’s hard-pressed approach to deportation in several ways that question whether undocumented immigration allegations are entitled to their legitimate hearing.

“Well, I have to ask my lawyer about it,” Trump responded when Moran claimed that the law requires everyone to have a hearing first.

“That’s all I can say,” Trump added. “If we have 21 million people, then we have to act quickly if we have to bring out a lot of people to be criminals. Do you think we can have a trial of 21 million people? Let’s say each trial takes two weeks.

Trump also said he doesn’t believe that the Elon Musk-led government’s Efficiency Bureau, or the Kudji effort to cut costs, was either too far or too reckless. And when, in the conclusion of the interview, he was asked what he would say to people he thought had seized too much power and became “authoritarians”, Trump rejected the concept and returned to his campaign slogan.

“No, I hate them thinking about it,” he said. “I’m doing one thing. I’m making America great again.”

White House spokesman Caroline Leavitt denounced Amazon on Tuesday, reporting plans to bring the costs of President Donald Trump’s tariffs to the site’s product prices. Amazon later confirmed that the plan would “never be approved” and that it would “not happen.”
