The suspect was arrested after it was discovered that a man was shot dead in Long Beach.
The suspect was identified as Malik Cooper, 24, of Compton, the Long Beach Police Department announced Tuesday.
On March 17, Long Beach Police responded to an attack with a deadly weapon in the 5400 block of Atlantic Avenue around 3:49am.
Upon arrival, officers discovered Alejandro Calderon, 52, of Hawthorne, and injured a bullet in the upper body. He was taken to hospital and later died of injuries.
The gunman had fled the scene before police arrived. Detectives investigated the case and later identified Cooper as the main suspect.
On April 28, Cooper was arrested during a traffic stop in Compton. He is reserved for murder and is being held on $2 million bail.
It is unclear how Cooper and the victims are known to each other. The motivation behind the shooting death is under investigation.
Detectives will present the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for submission.
