D-Ga. Sen. John Ossoff of the senator, said the economic challenges posed by President Donald Trump’s “chaos and uncertainty” are the biggest challenge facing Peach State, highlighting the president’s uncertain economic policies affect the way businesses and residents make future decisions.
Ossoff, who is preparing to run for reelection in 2026, has yet to announce whether he will be in the race, potentially against Georgia’s popular Republican government, Brian Kemp. Ossoff is the only Democrat who wants to be re-election representing Trump’s winning state last year, and is the highest goal for Republicans who want to maintain a Senate majority.
“I’m more than ready for a challenger,” Ossov, 38, told The Associated Press on Saturday, declined to comment on a potential enemy.
Ossoff defeated incumbent Republican Sen. David Purdue in the 2021 outbreak, helping Democrats turn over control of the Senate and hold the Chamber of Commerce majority for four years during the Biden administration.

For his first four years, Ossov sought to establish his reputation as a senator who works to advance Georgia’s traditional interests, including farmers and military bases. He says he will try to work with Republicans to give birth to Georgia.
The senator, who recently spurred his criticism of Trump, warned on Saturday that Georgia businesses and households are struggling to plan for the future due to constant changes in federal trade and economic movements.
“Companies cannot invest in understanding what the international trade rules are for an hour or week or month,” Ossoff told The Associated Press. “There is so much confusion and uncertainty in implementing federal economic policy that households are unable to plan their annual budget.”
“This administration needs to clearly define its economic objectives and whatever its plan is, it needs to be implemented competently,” he continued. “The fact that the White House doesn’t even know what its policy is, it has such unpredictability and confusion, which makes the nation’s economy a serious economic risk, as it leaps from one policy to another.”

Ossov also raised concerns about Trump’s authoritarian and “non-American” enforcement actions since returning to the White House in January, pointing to attempts to chase the president’s political opponents.
“I’ve never seen the president use the federal government to smash critics and political enemies,” Ossov said. “It’s new in American history, and in my view, Americans are non-Americans, and we should be dipping ourselves to the bones, regardless of our political preferences or our politics.”
The lawmakers urged Republicans to remember that Democrats would eventually become president again and “the shoes are on the other foot.”
“It’s about checking and balancing,” he said. “This is about whether the administrative divisions designed by the Constitution are constrained by wise lawmakers who can put partisans aside to protect the public interest.”
Ossoff explained that Democrats are limiting their power without control over the White House or Congressional rooms, but most of his job at this point is to let Georgia people know that Trump’s policies aren’t in the state’s greatest interests.

In addition to his criticism of Trump, Ossoff cited shortcomings during the Biden administration, particularly when it comes to border security. He was one of 12 Democrats who voted for the Raiken Riley Act, named after a Georgia nursing student who was murdered by Venezuelan immigrant Jose Antonio Ibarra.
The law requires illegal immigrants who have charged theft and violent crimes to be detained by the Department of Homeland Security.
“In my view, Americans expect and deserve safe boundaries,” Ossoff said. “And I think the Biden administration has failed border policies. I expect and deserve that Americans could enter this country illegally and pose a threat to public safety or national security by authorities.”

“But Americans do not support and do not expect federal police attacks on elementary schools, hospitals and churches,” he continues, referring to the Trump administration’s controversial immigration enforcement action. “and [the American people] Don’t expect our military facilities to become large prison camps for immigrants. Don’t want the whole family to close the legitimate process. We learned yesterday that a 2-year-old US citizen (a two-year-old girl) was deported without legitimate procedures. Our immigration policy needs to be responsible and serious. They also need to be humane. ”
