US District Judge Alaselli Martinez Olguin continues to block the government from cutting funding for legal services for unaccompanied immigrant children.

“This injunction prevents us from reducing access to funds allocated to Congress over that period,” the court ordered.

The move to grant the motion for a preliminary injunction came after the court previously granted a temporary restraining order on the same effect.

Fox News Digital reached out to the White House on Wednesday for comment, but did not receive a response by the time of publication.

In 2023, then-President Kamala Harris defeated the tie-up vote in the US Senate, confirming President Joe Biden’s nomination for Martinez Holguin and serving as US District Judge for the Northern District of California.

According to a biographer on the court’s website, the judge previously worked as a lawyer for the National Immigration Law Centre.

“Working at the intersection of immigration, economic and racial justice, NILC is developing a multifaceted strategy to ensure lasting and transformative change,” the organization notes on its website.

The preliminary injunction comes amid the challenge of the government’s move to cut off funds related to legal assistance for unaccompanied immigrant children.

Acacia itself is not a plaintiff, but various organizations have filed legal assignments after the government partially terminated its agreement with the Acacia Center for Justice.

“Until March 21, 2025, the Acacia Center for Justice (“Acacia”) managed a network of 89 legal services organizations (including Plaintiffs) in 159 offices across the country providing representation to unaccompanied children through funding from HHS and ORR, under a contract between Acacia and DOI (contracting on behalf of HHS and ORR),” a complaint asserted, referring to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), HHS Refugee Resettlement Bureau and the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The Trump administration faces a series of legal challenges across a range of issues during the first 100 days of his second term as president.
