San Bernardino County police have arrested a 46-year-old US Navy veteran from Arizona. He discovered earlier this week that he had enough pre-explosion precursors to produce an improvised, explosive device, officials said.
Chino Police Station officials first responded to Motel 6 at 12266 Central Avenue on April 28 after receiving reports of suspicious vehicles.
At that location, police found firearm components in plain views in a parked vehicle.
The owner of the vehicle identified as Jorge Moreno was contacted by police in a hotel room and found out he was in possession of an unregistered firearm.
“A subsequent search of his vehicle revealed chemicals and supplies that matched the precursors of the explosive device, along with several airsoft guns, ballistic vests and two gas masks,” a news release from Chino PD said.

Federal Bureau of Investigation agents and members of the Ontario Fire Department bomb squad helped secure the scene and manage chemicals.

Further investigations revealed that the retired veteran had specialized experience in explosive weapons and ammunition.
An additional warrant has been issued for the hotel room in Moreno. There, officers retrieved more material. This is a written formula for smoke bombs and drugs.
The 46-year-old was detained and booked at West Valley Detention Center for possession of materials intended to make destructive devices, police said.
An investigation into the activities and intentions of retired veterans is underway.
Anyone with information about this investigation will be asked to contact Reggie Barber Detective 909-334-3144 at Chino Police Station.
