After losing residents for several years, California’s population is rising again.
For the second year in a row, California’s population rose in 2024, indicating a shift from the exit trends that emerged amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

We will ensure that we continue to cut tapes, invest in people, and build on this momentum, seeking real results from the government.
Newsom’s office aimed to reduce population over the years. The number of US Census Bureaus indicates that losses are much lower than initially thought, and in some cases, the decline in years of the year was actually a slight increase.
“Despite the general myth of a continuous decline in population, California has only had a short period of population decline in its 174-year history, which fell 379,544 people (around 1% decrease over the last two years), according to the U.S. Census Bureau,” the release explained.
