There is no “Broken Dream Boulevard” here.
On Thursday, Green Day heritage was laid out on the streets of Hollywood. The Bay Area Band won the 2,810th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at the Recording Academy.
The band members Billy Joe Armstrong, Mike Dillund and Tre Cour were on hand to receive the honor. The Punk Rock Trio ranks as one of the world’s best-selling bands, selling over 75 million records and selling 10 billion streams.
Actor Ryan Reynolds served as one of the guest speakers at the event. He spoke about how he reached out to the band to use the “Deadpool and the Wolverine” hit “Goodridance.” In his joke, he praised the band’s “integrity” on their long list of accomplishments and admiration.
“I don’t think there’s a band like this together, like this, for so long without integrity, I think it’s like the bedrock of who they are,” he explained. “There’s respect and integrity in the band’s DNA, whether spoken loudly or not. It comes across their sense of mischief and play. It’s embedded in their musical work.”
After the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce declared it as Green Day on Thursday, the band took the podium to thank their fans, their families and all those who work behind the scenes with them.
Dirnt thanked Armstrong’s mother for giving him a “safe place” and band practice in his early days. Armstrong said the ceremony was his mother’s “Super Bowl.”
Just before the ceremony, Sky 5 filmed a long fan waiting for the ceremony.
“Closing the street,” cried Cour. “Mission: Achieve.
“I’m grateful to have hooked up the Green Day records, listened to Green Day by clicking on the mouse, and came to the Green Day show,” he continued.
Green Daystar is located just outside Amoeba Records, at the intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and Argyle Avenue.
