Jay Batacharya, director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), recently announced at FOX News that she has closed her last in-house Beagle Institute on the NIH campus.
The announcement comes as an investigation into funding the Beagle experiment a few days after government’s Office of Efficiency (DOGE) head Elon Musk was posted to X.
A report from the White Coat Waste (WCW) project detailed the history of the lab, which allegedly caused pneumonia to pump bacteria into the lungs of over 2,000 beagles, bleeding them, and forced them into septic shock for fatal experiments.
Following the announcement, WCW president and founder Anthony Berotti praised President Donald Trump for finishing his advanced scrutiny project.

“Taxpayers and pet owners should not be forced to pay for NIH beagle abuse,” Berotti wrote in a statement. “We praise the President for cutting this useless NIH spending and will continue to fight until we refund all dog labs at home and abroad. The solution is simple: stop the money. Stop the madness!”

The Food and Drug Administration announced in April shortly after the Trump administration took office. It announced it would abolish animal testing requirements for antibody therapy and other drugs and support testing of materials that mimic human organs.
Environmental Protection Agency chief Lee Zeldin has also announced that his agency will revive 2019 policies from the first Trump administration to phase out animal testing.

After the report was released, 23 bipartisan lawmakers, including Rep. Nancy Mace, sent letters to Fauci, including Rs.C., addressing the heartbreaking experiment.
“Yesterday I wrote to Dr. Faussy about a cruel, taxpayer-funded experiment on puppies, and I’ll de-de-before I drag them and kill them,” Mace wrote in X’s October post. “I don’t like this.
Kathy Guillermo, Senior Vice President of PETA at Laboratory Investigations, told Fox News Digital on Sunday night that the organization was “pleased” with the news of the NIH facility closure.
“We are letting the new NIH director know how important this step is to modernize science. These last experiments are particularly happy as they are related to the sepsis we have been working on to close for several years. Sepsis experiments on animals have been a failure.”
Guillermo noted that PETA has pending lawsuits filed under the Biden administration to prevent the government from funding any further sepsis experiments.

PETA is waiting for information about the condition of the dog being released and said that if it is in shape enough to be placed in the house, Guillermo said they are ready to help.
“Dr. Bhatacharya has got off to a great start. There should be more work done as animals, including beagles and other dogs, are being experimented across the country,” she said. “So I look forward to what’s coming next.”
