The West Hills primary school was temporarily locked down after attempting to lure a toddler deployed right next to campus property, police confirmed with KTLA.
The incident occurred shortly after 2pm, when families of students at Enady-Airway Elementary School walked to campus to pick up their children.
In a message to family, school and district officials, a man wearing a hospital bracelet said he followed his family on Sherman Way to Royer Avenue and attempted to lure a toddler.
“Fortunately, the mother was able to wrestle the child out of his arm,” authorities said.
Fearful, the family ran to school and evacuated inside the main office where 911 was immediately called.

Police said they were taken into custody in connection with the incident during the approximately 40-minute lockdown called a heavy Hispanic man standing about 5 feet 10 inches tall.
Authorities said school staff and teachers were following lockdown procedures during the incident, following constant communications and in contact with district operations and police.
“We regret not being able to inform our parents during lockdown, but our main priority was the safety of our children and staff until all of the parents arriving for firing complicate the issues,” the school principal said in a message.
The lockdown was then lifted and all operations returned to normal.
LAPD said an investigation into the incident was underway and no further details were available.
