Police are looking for someone who hid multiple cameras in the bathroom of an Hermosa Beach Dance Studio, which is used by children, parents and employees.
Parents made an intrusive discovery at a dance studio in the 1100 block of Aviation Boulevard Saturday morning, Hermosa Beach Police Department said in a news release.
The officers arrived at the studio around 9:30am and found multiple cameras hidden in the studio bathroom. Authorities say the parents who found the camera handed it over to staff and contacted police.
The bathrooms used by parents, students and employees are unisex. Students participating in dance studios range from 2 to 18 years old, police said.
“We understand the concerns this incident may cause in our community, especially among our parents and families, and we want to assure residents that we are addressing this issue to the greatest extent,” the Hermosa Beach Police Department said in a statement.
Police said the camera was hidden in a ckler basket in the bathroom.
Liliana Somma, owner of Dance and Music School, confirmed that the camera is in her business on news station ABC7. She said she lost several clients due to the incident. Somma pointed out that she has been open for 25 years and has over 1,000 students in the studio.
Somma told the news station that she had hired the company to inspect other hidden devices in her business.
“We also bought these regular sweep devices that we’re trying to do all day long, and I think everyone should,” Somma told the news station. “But that’s what we’re trying to do. It’s new and we can also add cameras to the hallways and see who’s coming and going into the studio itself.”
