The security guard was charged with murder on Tuesday, and attempted murder was attempted in a shooting at the Air Aviation Training School in Inglewood.
Jesse Figueroa, 40, of Monterey Park, has been charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm after a previous violent conviction. The arrest was scheduled for later Tuesday in Inglewood.
He was in custody on a $1 million bond.
Figueroa is accused of shooting and killing two women Friday afternoon inside the office on the Spartan College of Aviation and Technology campus. Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts told reporters on Saturday that Figueroa was recently hired as a security guard on campus.
The victim was an employee of the school, one of whom was hospitalized in a critical condition. The second victim was injured but was in stable condition.
On Monday, authorities confirmed that one of the two women had died. The victim’s name has not been released.
Chris Becker, president of the University of Spartan Inglewood Campus, issued a statement on Saturday.
“We are deeply saddened and angry at what happened,” Becker said. “Our idea is with two staff members and their families who are receiving medical care during this period. Counseling services and support will be arranged for students and staff over the next few days.”
Butts said a 9mm shell casing was found on site, noting that there could be evidence of DNA or fingerprints.
According to Inglewood Police, the suspect contacted officers of the city’s Los Angeles Police Department around 6pm on Friday and was taken into custody. Authorities said a gun was found in his car.
