The sexual lawsuit filed against Motown legend Smokey Robinson is nothing more than an “ugly way to try to withdraw money from the 85-year-old American icon,” the singer’s lawyer said in a statement Wednesday.
A statement from Robinson’s attorney is the first response on behalf of the singer as four women filed a complaint against him Tuesday, accusing him of assault and sexual assault. The singer’s wife, Francis Robinson, was also named in the lawsuit.
“Through this process, we’ve seen the strange plays of yesterday’s press conference as the plaintiff’s lawyer outlined the sleazy and false allegations against Mrs. Robinson. “We ask those who follow this case to reserve judgment as the evidence is revealed and all the actual facts of the case unfold.”
The lawsuit filed by four women identified as Jane Doe 1, 2, 3 and 4 alleges that the plaintiff was “repeated sexual assault and sexual harassment” in the couple’s home and elsewhere. The accuser was a housekeeper who worked at Robinson.
“We address issues related to the timeline, inconsistency and relationships between the plaintiff and others, as well as many aspects of the complaints that deny credibility,” Frost’s statement continued.
The lawyer added that the singer will “respond with his words” in time.
The complaint seeks a general damage of a minimum of $50 million.
