According to the Santa Ana Police Department, one student was killed and injured in stab wounds in Santa Ana on Wednesday.
Police said officers responded to a stinging call near Martin R. Henninger Elementary School and Santa Ana High School just before 3:30pm. The two surviving students were said to be in stable condition.
Details of what led to violence were unknown.
The Santa Ana Unified School District said in a statement sent to parents that police were leading the investigation into the incident. It added that there is no threat to the public.
All after-school activities were cancelled on Wednesday as a result of the stab wound. Crisis counselors will be available Thursday to support students in need.
Police are looking for two individuals needed in connection with the incident.
Friends and family held a memorial Wednesday night to honor students who lost their lives.
“I think I’m still dealing with it because I really don’t want to say he’s gone,” said Aaron Chavez, the best friend of the late student. “He was a really fun, caring, funny kid. He didn’t get in trouble. He was like a clown in class.”
Police say the victim was only 14 years old. The other boys in the hospital are 15 and 16 years old.
Parents in the community shared their concerns after hearing that their child was killed near the school.
“We don’t want our kids to have such close proximity, especially ours,” Vanessa Vargas said.
In a statement, the district wrote:
“#sausd is heartbroken to confirm that one of the students injured in the incident outside Santa Ana HS this afternoon has tragically passed away. Two more students have also been injured and remained hospitalized.
