Criminal cases were suspended Thursday against a man accused of stalking actor Jennifer Aniston and causing his car to crash into the gates of his Bel Air home after a judge agreed to refer him to the mental health court from Mississippi for a mental assessment.
Jimmy Wayne Carweel was shirtless when he appeared at his first hearing at the airport courthouse near Lux.
The judge ordered him to leave Aniston and not contact her by phone or other means, saying that Kerweil will continue to be held in custody in lieu of $150,000 bail.
Carwyle is allegedly attempting to drive a car through the main gate of Aniston’s home on May 5th, and is allegedly taken into custody on private security details.
The LA County District Attorney’s Office filed a felony stalker and vandalism charge on Wednesday, furthering the threat of major physical harm.
The DA’s office said in March 2023 that it was suspected of a stalker allegedly containing unwanted social media, voicemail and email messages.
Local law enforcement officials said these messages could not be confirmed when they were first reported to police.
They said Aniston’s private security team regularly hired non-working LAPD officers, including security guards who detained Carweil at the muzzle.
If Carwyle decides he has the ability to stand trial, he could face the biggest sentence in a three-year prison if he is convicted.
