Longtime KTLA weather anchor Mark Krisky shared details about his stroke and his journey to recovery in honor of National Stroke Awareness Month.

Dr. Rahul Jandial, a neurosurgeon and scientist at City of Hope, sheds more light on warning signs and symptoms to be careful when it comes to strokes.

“I went down like a lot of bricks,” recalled Krisky after suffering from strokes in May 2024. “I tried to get out of bed, but my feet weren’t there.

After recovery, Krisky revealed that he suffers from Warrenberg syndrome, which involves damage to part of the medulla, usually caused by stroke.

“The correct chord, one of my vocal cords, was paralyzed,” he said. “That’s why I had that voice.”

Krisky said the doctor injected the filler and plumped the affected right cord so that both the left and right cords could meet and work properly again for the speech.

However, filler is a temporary solution, and Krisky said he and his doctors are still discussing the procedures and permanent solutions.

“But I recovered, and it was great,” Krisky said. “The best advice Dr. Jandial said is “I travel and exercise every day.” ”

Kriski officially returned to KTLA 5 Morning News on April 3rd. He said he was mostly pleased to recover, but he realized that the incident had changed his life.

“You’re never exactly the same,” he said. “Fortunately, I actually live near Northridge Hospital, a stroke center. I would like to thank all the doctors, nurses and technicians. Everyone at Northridge Hospital.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, some tips for preventing stroke include eating healthy foods, maintaining a healthy weight, intake of regular physical activity, smoking and drinking alcohol. For more information, please click here.
