The California Highway Patrol will deploy new tools in crackdown on what is called “video game style” driving in a new fleet of patrol vehicles.
“These new patrol units, unlike our iconic black and white people, will maintain the paint job for the manufacturer, helping officers blend into ACT traffic and catch reckless drivers,” CHP Commissioner Sean Dury said in a video introducing the X’s vehicle.
CHP has used a specially marked Patrol Vehicles (SMPV) program for over 40 years to halt certain road safety issues.
CHP will face the latest threats by rolling out 100 “next-generation SMPVs” across California. An offensive driver who speeds excessively and risks tailgates, split lanes and live shows.

“When they find our marked units, they often change their behavior temporarily. These new patrol vehicles help us to hold them accountable,” Duryee said.
The Dodge Durango SMPV comes equipped with emergency lighting and a CHP badge version on the door.
Despite advances in vehicle safety, more than 4,000 traffic deaths are reported in California every year. “Most of these are preventable,” Dury said. “A small portion of offensive drivers are at risk for everyone.
