A man suspected of shooting with a drone near a park in Southern California faces a charge of attempted murder after allegedly firing fire on an officer while trying to escape Thursday.
The 911 call reported the first drone shooting near Claremont Hills Wilderness Park, in the 4000 block of North Mills Avenue, the Claremont Police Department said in a news release Friday.
The deployed officer received an explanation of the suspect and his vehicle.
The officer tried to stop the driver. The driver instead led the cities of Claremont, Pomona, Raverne and Montclair to police in a 20-mile pursuit, police said.
“During the pursuit, the suspect shot multiple rounds from his vehicle with a chase officer,” the police department said in a news release.
The pursuit ended when officers used pit operations on the eastbound side of the 10th Highway near Indian Hill Boulevard and the suspect lost control of the vehicle.
The driver was then taken into custody without further incident.
“The investigators recovered the firearms loaded at the scene and additional loaded magazines,” police said.
The suspect, identified as 46-year-old Daniel Rombach of Pomona, was booked on suspicion of attempted murder of a peace officer, attacking with a deadly weapon, avoiding a felony and unlawful possession of a firearm.
He was in custody on $2 million bail and was scheduled for arrest on May 12th.
