The U.S. Department of Justice said a Massachusetts suspect was charged this week with attempting to assassinate a Cabinet candidate.
Ryan Michael English, 24, was arrested in January when he allegedly tried to bring a knife and two improvised Molotov cocktails to the U.S. Capitol to assassinate then-Treasury Secretary Scott Bescent during his appointment.
English was charged on Thursday with attempted assassination of a candidate for a Cabinet member and carrying dangerous weapons on the grounds of the Capitol.
English appeared in the first courthouse on Thursday afternoon.

Prosecutors said the English language was originally inspired by United Healthcare CEO murder suspect Luigi Mangione, who planned to kill house speaker R-LA and defense secretary Pete Hegzes.
The UK walked to a police officer at the U.S. Capitol on January 27th, and was said to have stated, “I want to submit myself.”

According to court documents, the English claimed he had two Molotov cocktails and two knives, and expressed that he was there “to kill Scott Bescent.” Federal prosecutors said the UK left their Massachusetts home and traveled to Washington with the intention of killing Hegses, who was called the “Nazis” and burning the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank near the White House.
Capitol police officers found a folding knife and two improvised baking device devices made from vodka bottles with grey cloth stuck on top of English jackets during their search.
