The Hancock Park area has repeatedly targeted robbers

Residents in the Hancock Park neighborhood said there were no signs of a halt and were invaded by robber crews who were constantly breaking into their homes.

Surveillance cameras repeatedly visited the same area near Third Avenue and Lovelair, capturing criminal crews at work.

“It’s been happening for the last two months,” said a neighbor who doesn’t want to be identified due to safety concerns. “We’ve probably hit 10 or 11 times.”

Residents said that intruders often break in when they are not in their homes. They quickly plunder the property and escape with many valuables within minutes.

However, Eric Jacoby said he happened to be present when the thief targeted his home around 10:15pm on May 1st.

“I was getting my bed ready when another sump followed by a smash,” he said. “I opened the bedroom door and quickly realized that he would go to my child’s room before he could get to me as the man was up the stairs. So I cried.

Jacoby said his verbal warnings were enough to scare the burglar. He said the horrifying encounters only further highlight the need for more community protection.

“We need more police,” he said. “We need more police on the streets.”

Since then, many neighbors have been united, protecting each other and keeping an eye on the suspects hiding, but believe they need to do more with local leaders and law enforcement.

“Through all the communication we do as neighbors, it doesn’t seem to have a clear strategy to keep our neighborhoods safe,” said resident Kate Cress.

NeightreOod, which is primarily in the Jewish community, is now expanding its patrol through a special volunteer security force called the Magen AM Shield.

“We have licensed and carried firearms through extensive training,” explained Salvador Litvac, a member of the neighbour and security forces. “We thought it was about protecting worship houses, but now that crime is ramping so much in the neighborhood, we’ve expanded our vigilance to it.”

Many residents told KTLA that they have removed all valuables from their homes and increased security measures.

Officials said residents should report the situation to local law enforcement if something appears suspicious or out of place.

Anyone with information or evidence for the Hancock Park robbery will be asked to call the Los Angeles Police Department at 1-877-527-3247.
