Santa Cruzan was first held in Malolos, Bulacan, Philippines in the 1800s and was able to find the true cross that Jesus was said to be crucified as a religious procession commemorating the quest of Queen Helena of Constantinople and her son Constantine the Great. It has since become part of the Filipino tradition that focused on the youth and their dedication to the blessed Virgin Mary.
