When the May heatwave swept Southern California on Saturday, hikers rushed to the hospital due to hot fatigue.
Authorities said paramedics were in a hurry to help a man hiking on the Hollywood hills.
Firefighters and paramedics dispatched Saturday at 11:11am had performed hoist operations by Lee Drive Mount to extract the man from the location, the Los Angeles Fire Department reported.
The patient was taken to the hospital via a LAFD helicopter.
No further information regarding his condition was immediately available.
NBC Los Angeles meteorologist Shanna Mendiola said he warned of high fever-related risks, saying the May heatwave could set record highs in inland cities such as Riverside and Burbank.
“We see triple digit temperatures from Tujunga to Pasadena, followed by 210 highways to Covina to Rancho Cucamonga, which increases the risk of fever-related illnesses,” Mendiola said.
Fever-related illnesses include fever stroke, fever convulsion, dehydration, fatigue, and lightheads.
“Drinking lots of liquids, staying in an air-conditioned room, staying away from the sun, checking out your relatives and neighbors,” advised the NWS. Wear lightweight and relaxed clothing.
