After more than 1,000 people sparked a mayhem in downtown Los Angeles on Saturday night, investigators are now pondering surveillance images and social media posts to track down the people responsible, especially those who destroyed countless businesses and LAPD vehicles and subway trains.
A large number of people were caught on video, kicked and sprayed patrol vehicles, and another group of about 50 trespassers blocked two trains at the intersection of Washington Boulevard and Maple Street, destroying them.
From restaurants to clinics in the area, unidentified businesses near the fashion district, also spray-painted against the backdrop of illegal fireworks.
Mayor Karen Bass said a series of destructive events began as illegal political parties in vacant warehouses after participants were recruited online.
“This type of action is completely unacceptable,” Bus said in a statement, pledging to work closely with the city’s attorneys and district attorneys to take responsibility to the fullest extent of the law.
Bass added that officers were attacked by a crowd during the three-hour brawl, and that one officer must be medically treated after being hit in the face with a bottle.
Illegal Party Restraint Forces in the Newton area of LAPD, which are monitoring illegal gatherings, first detected the gatherings and warned several stations to respond to the incident.
Investigators are also reportedly getting surveillance video footage and interviewing affected videos to assess the damage.
