Members of the community gather to help young Pasadena firefighters as they recover in ICU from an unfair accident that says their loved ones paralyzed him from the waist down.

According to the Pasadena Fire Department, firefighter paramedic Amen Hagopian, who helped fight the recent fatal Eaton fire, suffered severe spinal cord injuries from a motorcycle accident on Tuesday, May 20th.

“For years, Amen came across a burning building and responded to an emergency to save the lives of others,” one of his crew told KTLA. “Now after being seriously injured, he found himself on the other side of the emergency call.”

The tragic incident is said to leave the Hagopians with limited sense and mobility, making them little indication that his condition will improve.

Hagopian, known in his community as a “devoted hero,” has served the city for over six years.

He was recently assigned to Firehouse 36. According to an Instagram post of his team, “He is known for his dedication, skill and commitment to the citizens he serves and both of them.”

Members hope to establish GoFundMe to raise financial support for their beloved firefighters and ease the costs of his medical, rehabilitation and home adjustments required.

“This story is more than a firefighter accident. It’s about resilience, the strength of our community and the hope that one of us can come together when we need us the most,” the Hagopian crew said.

In a description of the GoFundMe page, the author says that Hagopian selflessly protects his career to others and “puts his life at risk to save the lives and homes of many people in our community.”

“Now,” the explanation says. “It’s your turn to rally around him and support him as much as possible.”
