The Tarzana homeowner shook after his home was stolen by a thief while on a business trip.
Brock Covington was 3,000 miles away when his ring camera captured two men who strode back and forth outside the Tarzana home on Tuesday night.
“It was like the kind of intrusive feeling that you know someone is in your home when you’re not there,” Covington said.
Surveillance video shows one of the burglars smashing the front door glass before heading inside. Once inside, the thief knocked down one of the cameras.
“It looks like they went straight into my bedroom, onto the third floor and hit my closet,” Covington said. “They grabbed me knowing my designer duffel bag and all my designer bags, and they put things there using my pillowcase.
Covington estimates that the burglar stole about $9,000 worth of property, including a small safe, within three minutes.
“At first, I was just in shock, like it was one of those things that never happened to me,” Covington said.
LAPD says the man broke around 8:20pm and could only explain that he was wearing dark clothes and a baseball hat.
Covington says he was confused as to why his home was targeted after moving in about eight months ago. He added that his complex was gated and his home was not visible from the street, and that none of the houses around him were attacked.
Homeowners are encouraging their neighbors to remain vigilant when leaving their home alone and take extra precautions.
“It definitely isn’t a pleasant feeling, so I’m cautious,” Covington said. “If you can avoid putting yours at home when you’re away, especially if it’s more than a day or two.”
Covington says he plans to sign up for a security system that warns executives to respond to his home if something happens while he is away.
