City leaders are checking surveillance footage and looking for clues to the identity of the officer members who destroyed and assaulted the building in downtown Los Angeles over the weekend.
More than 1,000 people were attracted to the illegal party promoted online on Saturday night, according to a statement from Mayor Karen Bass’ office. The crowd then descended on Washington Boulevard and Maple Avenue after midnight.
At one point, members of the crowd took selfies on a tagged Los Angeles Police Station cruiser and a metro train that was stuck on a truck.
Bass denounced the action in a statement Monday.
“Under all circumstances it is not acceptable,” the mayor said at an anniversary event in Boyle Heights. “And those who commit this must be held liable to the full extent of the law.”
Special units in the Newton division of LAPD, which monitors illegal types of events, have recognized the party and notified the fire service of the Los Angeles Fire Station. When the crowd spilled down the streets, multiple department officials asked downtown for assistance, but they were overwhelmed and some officers were assaulted in the next three hours, authorities said.

One officer hit the face with a bottle but needed to see a doctor, the mayor’s office said. The video showed dozens of LAPD officers on riot equipment from the party crowd carrying weapons that fire non-fatal rounds for crowd control on the crowd.
The crowd was eventually dispersed, but no arrests were made. Police said they are reviewing camera footage from the area to try to identify the suspect.
