Starting in June, Huntington Beach authorities will begin implementing a “zero tolerance” policy regarding illegal sidewalk vending near public spaces such as beaches and piers, the city announced Tuesday.
A valid vendor permit is required to sell products and services anywhere in the city of Huntington Beach, but even those with a valid permit will face a fine of up to $1,000 per day if they are caught in major public areas, the Huntington Beach Police Department said.
“Vendors are strictly prohibited in major areas such as beaches, piers and parking, even with permission,” police said in a statement.
Vending is also prohibited on beaches, Pier Plaza, Beach Service Road, Dog Beach, Lifeguard Facilities, Pacific Coast Highway and downtown Huntington Beach.
“If you’re thinking of setting up a store without permission, don’t do that. Huntington Beach is not the place,” police added.

City officials said the new enforcement plan is intended to promote a “healthy community environment.”
