Bay City, Santa Monica Deli and Bakery known for its famous Godmother sandwiches, is temporarily closed after a failing test after a recent temporary closure by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.
“We take full responsibility and understand the seriousness of this issue,” the restaurant said in a social media post Tuesday. “This situation doesn’t reflect the standards we support in Bay City or the level of care we have built a reputation.”
The 100-year-old deli, located on 1517 Lincoln Boulevard, was closed on May 21 after a health test pointed out that it was “pest invasion.”
The restaurant claims no rodents were found.

Inspectors also noted issues regarding Bay City’s food temperature control handling, cooking surface disinfection and hand washing practices. No reopening date has been decided.
In that post, management said they are actively working with the health department and “third party experts” to address the violation.
“This is a difficult time for all of us in Bay City, but it is also a moment of reflection and recommendation. We are working to get back better, and we are deeply grateful for your patience, trust and the continued support we move forward,” the restaurant said.
Bay City is one of dozens of LA County eateries and markets on the Department of Health’s latest closure list, most of which were due to pest invasions. Others were cited for sewage discharge, disease transmission, no working toilets, no public health permits and repeated violations.
