Wednesday marked a Pacific Palisard milestone. The largest shopping complex in the community announced plans to reopen in 2026, providing good news for neighborhoods that were ravaged by the Palisade fire in January.
For many people, the village of Pallisard serves as a place for community gatherings, so leaders have been extremely strong in improving it than ever before.
“When you look around and talk to the residents, they’re desperate for hopeful signs because there’s so much devastation and heartache that they live together every day,” said Rick Caruso, owner of the village of Parisades.
And when the village reopens, Ellis Walker’s business is there. She had her flagship store in Palisade for 25 years before it burned in the January fire. On Wednesday, she announced that she would reopen in the village of Palisades.
“I shared this news with my team two hours ago and thought they might get a little nervous, but my phone is crazy about the stupid emoji of joy,” Walker said. “I hope today will serve as a catalyst for confidence. There’s no doubt that this community will return together.”
Caruso also said his team will use his money and city funds to work to improve sidewalks, lighting and landscaping in the area. Some positive updates coming after the news that schools and the Palisade Reck Center are also being rebuilt.
Caruso said it is also working on several efforts to improve other communities affected by the January fire.
“We are actively working in Altadena and Malibu. We are actively considering redesigning their Upper Lake area for their business district. We are talking to retailers about coming there to promote economic activity. And we are working on designing their adult centers,” he added.
He said he intends to do everything he can to get the community back to normal as quickly as possible.
“I’m not a patient person. I don’t want to keep this in years to be reborn. I want the community to come back,” Caruso said.
