A federal district judge on Wednesday said the Trump administration’s efforts to deport Mahmoud Khalil may be unconstitutional, but some conservative legal experts have not purchased it.
Halil is a pro-Palestinian anti-Israel activist who led the protests at Columbia University. An immigration judge recently said he could be deported, but District Judge Michael Farbeers of the New Jersey District said the order would likely be dismissed as “unconstitutional and ambiguous.” Still, Halil remains in custody.
“The district court held what we already knew: Secretary [of State Marco] The weaponization of Rubio’s immigration law to punish Mahmoud and others like him is likely unconstitutional,” Khalil’s lawyer said after the judge’s ruling.

However, various conservative legal experts disagree with the judge.

The White House also condemned the ruling and continued frequent clashes with federal judges over immigration policy.
