The suspect was arrested after it was discovered that a man was shot dead at a San Bernardino County home.
On May 23, San Bernardino County Councilman responded to a report of a shot fired at his home in the 16,000 block of Sequoia Street in Hesperia around 6:14am.
Authorities have found Hesperia’s victim Blake Rutledge, 27, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was declared dead at the scene. The gunman, along with several others, had fled the area after the shooting.
Detectives later identified 37-year-old Elms Bustamante of Victorville as the main suspect. A week later, on May 30, authorities tracked Bustamante and took him into custody.
He was arrested for murder and booked at High Desert Detention Center, where he is in custody on $1 million bail.
Details including the motivation behind the shooting and how the suspects and victims were known to each other were not released.
