Harrison Ruffin Tyler, the last grandson of US President John Tyler, born 83 years after his grandfather left the White House in 1845, passed away. He was 96 years old.

The cause of Tyler’s death on Sunday was not released anytime soon. John Tyler was 63 years old when Harrison Tyler’s father, Lyon Gardiner Tyler Sr., was born.

Harrison Ruffin Tyler was born in 1928, when his father was 75 years old and the president’s grandfather had died for over 60 years.

His grandson was known for preserving his grandfather’s plantation and nearby civil war fortress. In a statement, Annik Downing, executive director of Sherwood Forest, the national landmark of President Tyler’s residence, said the grandson of the president, whose brother died in 2020, “is a beloved father and grandfather, and will be overlooked immensely by those who survived him.”

“He will be remembered for his considerable charm, generosity and good humor from everyone who knew him,” Dunning said.

Tyler preserved the Sherwood Forest, his grandfather’s plantation, which enslaved dozens of people, including 43, in 1860 just before the start of the Civil War. The grandson also helped restore and maintain Fort Pocahontas, a union fort during the Civil War.

Tyler’s grandfather was a Democrat called the “contingent president” after unexpectedly assuming the presidency when President William Henry Harrison took office.

President Tyler was the first vice president to gain control of the White House after his death.

Huntington Beach, listed as a sanctuary city, was a “serious mistake,” the mayor says.

The University of Virginia Miller Center described the president as “the last breath of the old Virginian nobles of the White House.” He was married twice and had 15 children, including Lyon Gardiner Tyler Sr.

The time between the birth of the president and the death of his grandson lasts for 235 years.
