The crew immediately knocked down a structure fire reported at the Crypto.com arena on Saturday afternoon.
The Los Angeles Fire Department cited the incident at 4:16pm, with firefighters responding to reports that moderate smoke was shown on the ground floor of the arena at 1111 S. Figueroa St.
Upon arrival, LAFD said the crew was pointed to the source of smoke coming from the storage room on the first floor.
According to LAFD, the sprinklers are activated in the arena, and firefighters enter attack mode and “establish a hose and find a seat in the fire.”
In the 4:45pm update, LAFD said the swirling smoke found in the kitchen area has been significantly reduced, and firefighters are working to isolate the source within the piping.
“There’s no visible, active fire,” Lafd said. “There will be fire sprinkler activation on the first and second floors, requiring a large-scale water removal operation. Avoid the Figueroa X 12 area.”
Video from Citizen.com showed at least nine fire trucks parked outside the previous Staples Center.
Five minutes later, the fire department announced that the crew had officially achieved a knockdown.
“The firefighters placed the sources in the sub-level 1 duct system all the way to the first floor,” read the last update of LAFD. “The crew will remain on site due to water removal operations. No injuries have been reported. No details are available.”
