Senator Rand Paul said Sunday he would support President Donald Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” if the debt cap hike is removed.
Paul said CBS’s “Face the Nation” host Margaret Brennan and he and three other Republican senators would oppose the bill unless amended.
“I think there are four of us at this point. I’d be very surprised if the bill hasn’t changed for the better,” Paul said.
“I want to make the tax cuts permanent, but at the same time I don’t want to raise the debt cap by 5 trillion,” he continued, adding, “If the GOP votes for this, they will own the debt.”

Trump on Saturday warned that if Paul voted against the bill it would “in the hands of Democrats.”
“If Senator Rand Paul votes against our great, big and beautiful bill, he is voting along with radical left-wing Democrats to raise taxes by 68% and perhaps even more importantly, the first default on US debt,” Trump wrote on a True Saturday afternoon.

“Rand will be in the hands of Democrats and the great people in Kentucky will never forgive him! In addition to the growth we are experiencing, some cost savings will solve all the problems later. America will be bigger than ever!”
Next week, Senate Republicans get their turn to parse through a huge package, making tough changes that could sell if house speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) could only afford to lose three votes.
