Police confirmed with KTLA that a murder investigation is underway after it was discovered that a man was shot dead behind an Orange County liquor store on Sunday.
According to the Santa Ana Police Station, outside the strip mall at the intersection of New Hope and 1st Avenue, it happened before 5pm.
Police said 4502 W. 1st St.
Officers arrived to find a man who is presumed to be suffering from one gunshot wound. Authorities did not specify where the bullet wounds were on the man’s body.
Details are limited, but authorities eventually declared the man who died at the scene.
Footage from Citizen.com shows the massive presence of law enforcement at the scene, with multiple cruisers and yellow crime scene tapes closing out the area around the liquor store.

Santa Ana PD posted a public recommendation to X at 5:47pm, saying, “Police Activities: in the area of 1st Avenue and New Hope Street. Stay away from the area.”
Before 6:30pm, a police spokesman told KTLA he was waiting for authorities to appear in the coroner’s office to confirm whether the man’s death was the result of the murder or if he was self-imposed.

But they said detectives would treat it as a murder investigation for now. Police were unable to immediately provide suspicious explanations.
Authorities said no other injuries were reported.
