The Dodgers cap, jersey and pennant were one of the items left by mourners at a memorial outside the Baldwin Park Police Station over the weekend.
Residents and colleagues visited the memorial to Officer Samuel Liberos, which includes police cars, flowers, photographs, candles and items that reflected their love for the Dodgers. Blue and white flowers were placed on the hood of a police car.
“Our officer was a great guy,” said Baldwin Park Police Chief Robert Lopez. “He was an avid snowboarder and a Dodger fan. One of the interesting things I found is to travel and see the Dodgers perform at stadiums across the United States.”
The nine-year veteran was shot dead at about 7pm on Saturday when he responded to the 4200 block of Philharmonicles Avenue, east of the San Gabriel River (605) highway.
A man with a gunshot wound was found at the scene. He was declared dead at the scene. Details about the man’s identity and what led to the shooting death were not immediately available.
When officers arrived, security cameras recorded several gunshot sounds.

Liberos and another officer were shot dead during the response. Both were taken to hospital, where Liberos died.
The suspect’s name has not been released. It is unclear what charges he will face.
Riveros is a member of the SWAT team and was appointed Field Training Officer last year.
“To know this is to know what happened near the house and not pay tribute to the fallen officer, even though you may think it’s not a problem, whether you know them or not,” said Gustavos Tanahara, who visited the memorial.
The other officers were treated and released from the hospital, city officials said.
