One of the world’s most influential podcasts is coming to an end.
Sixteen years later, the “WTF With Marc Maron” podcast will document the final episode of this fall.
Comedian and actor Maron launched the show in September 2009 when the concept of the podcast was completely unknown within the industry. “WTF” and podcasting in general have exploded in popularity ever since.
“We’ve been doing this for 16 years and we decided we had a great run,” Maron said in an episode released Monday starring comedian John Mulany. “Well, basically, it’s time. It’s time. ‘WTF’ is coming to an end. That’s our decision. There will be a final episode someday in the fall. ”
Most episodes are recorded in Maron’s Los Angeles home garage. He is called “Cat Ranch.” That includes the famous sit-in with then-President Barack Obama on June 22, 2015.
According to Deadline, the series has received 1.1 billion downloads, listens and impressions since its launch with 1,645 free episodes and over 300 bonus episodes for premium subscribers.
Other guests who participated in the podcast include Robin Williams (2010), Lorne Michaels (2015), Paul McCartney (2018), Mandy Moore (2019), and Peter Dinklage (2022).
The date set for the series finale says it will be “someday autumn.”
