An investigation is underway after a 17-year-old boy was brutally beaten by a group of men at a concert in Palmdale last month.
Najee Ali, a civil rights activist who speaks on behalf of Elijah Green, said the attack by a high school student was captured on camera. During the assault, the man was seen attacking the teenager and casting racial slander at him.
The attack took place on May 24 at a concert near the intersection of Old Harold Road and Firethorn Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Palmdale Station.
“As a mother, seeing her son nearly beaten by a racist mob would have helped him, but I will never forget,” the victim’s mother, Ronica Green, said in a statement. “He did everything he could to protect himself, but she had no chance. My son was beaten because he is black. This is clearly a hate crime and demands justice.”
Following the attack, Greene’s family is asking law enforcement and the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office to investigate the attack as a hate crime. Lasd’s Palmdale Station said it was “taking hate crime allegations seriously,” and it was investigating the case.
It is unclear whether an arrest was made in connection with the attack. Law enforcement did not provide an explanation of those who saw them attacking Green.
Anyone with information about the case is encouraged to contact Palmdale Station Detective Peirson in Lasd at 661-272-2477.
