In a movement that could only make sense in the boys’ twisted universe (the Prime Video satire superhero series based on the comic book of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darrick Robertson), Amazon MGM Studios brings Los Angeles a live version of the show’s infamous holiday ice pageant. The two-day pop-up, called “Vought on Ice,” will take over the atrium this weekend at Westfield Century City Mall on Saturday, June 7th and Sunday, June 8th.
Timing it to promote the series that was nominated for an Emmy Award during the awards season, Activation recreates the over-the-top music number from Season 4. At the mall, a team of skaters travels through an hourly three-minute routine from 1pm to 8pm, channeling the same gorgeous, somewhat horrifying energy, making the original very unforgettable.
In between performances, the ice rink is open to the public. Fans can book a 40-minute skate session online or try one of their limited walk-up spots. Don’t be late. The restore has a strict 15 minute grace period before being handed over to the waitlist.
The event also includes a mini display of the show’s authentic costumes, allowing fans to study the aesthetics of satin, spandex and starry sky. And yes, Jitter Bean Coffee has become part of the experience, bringing one of the series’ favorite fictional chains to the real world.
Activations are available free of charge and can be found at Voughtonice.simpletix.com. Skate spots are expected to be faster. Because there’s nothing to say like glacial summer in LA like a corporate sponsored winter propaganda musical.
It’s not the first time that a boy’s universe has overlapped with the city of angels. Last October, the streamer hosted a burger pop-up/fan experience at West Hollywood (8175 Melrose Avenue), known as the “burgers.” And in 2019, chef Ludo Lefebvre brought Michelin-starred skills to a limited number of delis and butcher shops in collaboration with the gritty Prime Video series.
