Chelsea Freeman, wife of Los Angeles Dodgers star Freddie Freeman, shared a personal story last year about a kind gesture made by Baldwin Park police officer Samuel Liberos.
“We met in the Dodgers/Mets playoffs. He approached me, asked how my son Max was doing and handed me a patch of police.” “A little gesture that makes such a meaningful thing.”
Max Freeman was admitted to the Orange County Children’s Hospital last summer and was treated for Guillain Barre Syndrome, a rare autoimmune disorder.
Liberos’ kindness to children was well documented in videos showing elementary school students that the smiling officer was reading. He was also a dedicated Dodgers fan and snowboarder.

On Saturday night, a nine-year veteran at Baldwin Park Police Station was shot dead at the request of a man firing a rifle in the street. Riveros was airlifted to USC Memorial Hospital, where he died from the wounds there.
“Our hearts have heard of his passing this week. Officer Samuel Liberos of the Baldwin Police Station served with honor and heart. He was a passionate Dodgers fan in Pasadena,” reads the Chelsea post.
“Live in peace, Officer Liberos. You will never forget your kindness,” Post said.
