A bed bug-riding stay at the Ventura hotel “has been paid millions of dollars for the two guests who were slaughtered.[d] From bed bug bites during their visit, according to court records.”

According to their complaints, Gutierrez and Sanchez were “exposed to painful, disgusting bedbug invasions,” and suffered physical, emotional and mental anguish as a result of February 7, 2020, stayed at the beachside hotel.
“The management didn’t care about the place,” said Brian Villag, a lawyer for Gutierrez and Sanchez. “After all, they had a bedbug experience going back to the hotel for a long time.”
Located near the 101 highway, the hotel is a short walk from Ventura Beach and advertises its easy parking lot and close to Ventura Pier and Ventura Harbor.
The complaint filed in December 2021 claims that two men had rented a hotel room and soon began experiencing bed bug bites.
The lawsuit also argued that management at the hotel must have been aware of the bed bug issue as several online reviews on Google and Yelp warned guests about bed bugs at a hotel at 1059 South Seaward Ave. in Ventura.
Despite knowing about the issue, the lawsuit alleges that management failed to eradicate pests from the hotel and put guests in harm’s way.
Gutierrez and Sanchez left the hotel after one night and had to seek treatment as a result of the bite, Virag said.
On May 23, the ju judge awarded Gutierrez $400,000 in damages in damages for past and future pain, appearance, grief and mental distress as a result of his injuries. Sanchez was awarded $600,000 in damages, according to court records.
The ju judge also awarded the two men $500,000 each in punitive damages.
In 2022, Disneyland Resort agreed to pay a resort hotel guest $100,000 in a litigation settlement dealing with a bedbug bite lawsuit during a 2018 visit.
Virag, an Encino-based lawyer specializing in bedbug cases submitted against hotels and apartments, said the $2 million juj award was the biggest award he has seen in bedbug-related cases in his career.
